What do you enjoy about playing volleyball?

“The thing I love about volleyball is that it is fast paced. It is fun when the ball comes, and you have to work with the team to save the ball.”

As a captain, what is the strongest trait the team has?

“The strongest trait our team has is being scrappy. Being scrappy means you have to work together and react quickly to the ball.”

What is your favorite type of food?

“My favorite type of food is Pad Kee Mao, which is a type of Thai noodles.”

Do you think you will have a successful season this year?

“Yes, because we work really hard and grow stronger as a team everyday. I think [our team] is getting [closer] to each other after going through non-league games. ”

As a captain, how do you want to be viewed by other players?

“I want [to be viewed] as a leader and give constructive criticism when it is needed. I want players to be able to come up to me and ask, “What can I fix?” Basically, I want to be seen as a good example on the court.”

How is volleyball different from other sports?

“For volleyball, you have to have the mentality to gain a good pass. There is also more rules in volleyball.”

What is your favorite fast food restaurant?

“Definitely In-In-Out. I’m a burger person, and they have really good burgers and fries.”

How do you balance your schoolwork with other activities?

“I know how to time manage myself,  because I have been playing volleyball since freshman year. I do my homework when I get home, practice for two and a half hour, and finish [rest of] my homework by a reasonable time.”

What responsibilities come along with being a captain?

“I [feel responsible] for motivating and encouraging the athletes when they are running.When the coaches are talking, I make sure the [athletes] are listening and paying attention. I have been organizing many team bondings as well.”

What is an important aspect a player needs for this sport?

“A good mindset, because running [relies on mental abilities]. It is about having enough self motivation to stay focused and keep running.”

Do you think you will have a successful season this year?

“I think so. We only had a few races so far, but I feel like everyone is at a good starting place. I [believe] with more hard work and training, we can reach our [personal] goals and improve immensely.”

How do you balance your sport with schoolwork and other activities?

“It is a little difficult, but I always try my best to be on top of my classes. As soon as I get home from practice, I try to finish my schoolwork. It is just [about having good] time management.”

What are some essentials for Cross Country?

“An  important [necessity] for Cross Country is running shoes, because you need to feel good when you are  running. Drinking lots of water throughout the day is also important.”

What responsibilities come along with being a leader?

“Responsibilities that come along with being a leader is setting a good example for the incoming freshman and sophomores, because all the runners look up to you.”

What motivates you to keep running?

“I want to help my team win. If other people see that I am going all out, they will feel motivated to do the same.”

How do you prepare for races?

“I mentally prepare for races by telling myself positive things, like “I can do it” and “You are the best.” Even though I am not the best, I know I will get there someday.”

What makes your team strong against other opponents?

“Our team is strong because of our teamwork. We help each other throughout the matches.”

Do you think you will have a successful season this year?

“Yeah, I think we will have a good season. I am hoping that we will get into CIF farther than the last year.”

What is your favorite sports brand?

“My favorite brand is Titleist, which is a golf brand.”

Who is your favorite professional golf player and why?

“My favorite golf player is Adam Scott because he is known to have one of the most perfect swings in golf. Not only is Scott an amazing golfer, he is also caring towards his fans, regardless of the language barrier between them.”

What do you enjoy about this sport?

“I really enjoy playing with my team. [Since] golf is a really mental sport, I also enjoy having lots of time to focus on what I am doing.”

How many times does Wilson’s team meet for practice?

“We meet three times a week to practice. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we also practice before going out to compete.”

What is your favorite fast food restaurant?

“My favorite fast food restaurant is In-N-Out. I could eat it every single day.”

What do you enjoy doing other than playing golf?

“I love to draw. I am huge on art, so that is one of my favorite hobbies outside of playing golf.”

What is your favorite part about being a captain?

“I like being a captain, because it gives me the opportunity to watch my [team members] grow as players and as people.”

What is your favorite thing about tennis?

“My favorite thing about tennis is that it is a mental and physical game, [meaning] you can not just be good at the sport, but you must also have the right mindset.”

What have you gained from being tennis captain?

“[Though] I have many responsibilities, I have also built many friendships [while] gaining leadership skills and ultimately more love for the game.”

What are your expectations for the upcoming season?

“I hope we can take League again this year and advance as far as we can in CIF.”

When did you start playing tennis?

“I started [tennis] when I was four, because my parents wanted to put me in [an activity] that kept me busy.”

What motivates you to keep improving?

“Playing in tournaments and wanting a scholarship [motivates] me to [keep practicing tennis].”

How does it feel to be varsity captain as a freshman?

“It feels very special, because not [many] freshmen are [chosen] to be a captain.”

What is your favorite part about being a captain?

I [enjoy] bringing the team closer together and helping [us] trust each other.”

What motivates you to keep improving?

“When [I see] other team members [play well], it [makes] me want to perform [better].”

When did you start playing tennis?

“I [started] playing in seventh grade, because my dad looked cool when he was playing tennis.”

If you were to join another sport, what would it be?

“I would [join] swimming, because my parents said swimming will make me grow taller.”

Do you prefer playing doubles or singles?

“I [prefer] doubles, because I can rely on the other [player].”

What is your favorite part about being a captain?

“My favorite part about being a captain is that I [am able] to lead and contribute back to [the] team that has given me so much since my freshman year.”

When did you start playing?

“I started playing when I was eight. My mom enrolled me in tennis, because she liked the elegance of the sport and I enjoyed watching it on T.V. with my dad.”

How do you prepare your players?

“During practice, we run mock matches to make sure that every player is put in suitable starting positions. We also focus on drills to improve our technique.”

Do you prefer sneakers or sandals and why?

“I [prefer] sneakers, because they provide more protection. Plus, you always need a good pair of sneakers when playing tennis.”

What is your favorite part about being a captain?

“I get to influence the younger guys and help them develop. Couple of years, I can see what kind of players they have become.”

If you were to join another sport what would it be and why?

I [would] join Cross Country, because I like how they endure [many] obstacles. In the end, I [can] look back and say, ‘Wow I did that!’”

How do you prepare your players?

“When preparing for competitions, I like hyping everyone up with memes and being really saucy with them.”

What made you choose to join waterpolo?

“My sister said [there] were a lot of cute guys on the [team], so I wanted to become one of them.”

How often does the football team practice?

“Every day [starting at] sixth period, we study other teams for one to two hours. Then, we make a game plan, which we execute on the field for [at least] two hours.”

What is something you are looking forward to this season?

“I am looking forward to the fun we are going to have every day, along with the [hard work] the team will be [putting into practice].”

In-N-Out or McDonald’s?

“In-N-Out because they are [authentic], and their animal style fries are good.”

Do pineapples belong on a pizza?

“Some people may think I am crazy, but I like pineapples on pizza because [they] add that extra flavor.”

What do you like most about football?

“I like being with all my brothers on the field.”

What is the hardest part of practice?

“The hardest part is practicing in the heat, [because sometimes] it can get [really] hot.”

What is one thing you would like to do with your team?

“This year, [I want to] make playoffs [with my team].”

What would your very last meal be?

“For my last meal, I [would like to eat] the chicken fettuccini [from] Olive Garden.”

What is your favorite part about practice?

“My favorite part [is] when we get to [play] against our [fellow members].”

How does the football team prepare for each game?

“During the week, we practice like there is a game we have to win. On actual game days, we hype each other up [before] the game [begins].”

If you had to join another sport, what would it be?

“Baseball, [because] that is [a sport I already play].”

What is your dream job?

“My dream job would be playing in the NFL, because it has always been my dream to go professional.”

How will you lead your team to success this season?

“I would keep things calm and always fine-tune everybody’s mistakes. Practice is important, and that is how I notice small [mistakes] and fix them, especially for newer [members].”

What is the best memory you have with your team?

“My best memory would probably be from two or three years ago, [when] we got into double overtime at the Rowland game. As a freshman, I was [amazed] by watching the [junior] varsity team play and seeing how intense the game was. It was a really fun [moment] that got me more into water polo.”

What is the most important lesson water polo has taught you?

“The most important lesson would be: patience is important. Improvement takes time. If you expect things to come right away, then you will disappoint yourself.”

Do pineapples belong on a pizza?

“No! Pineapple does not belong on pizza, alright? Take that off! Pineapple is juicy [and] good by itself, but it makes the pizza soggy.”

What is the hardest part about water polo?

“The hardest part about water polo is staying motivated during our long swim sets. It is easy to give up, but being able to finish the set is [satisfying].”

What is something you are looking forward to this season?

“I am looking forward to getting everyone hyped up and [creating] a positive atmosphere to our competitions.”

What would be the ultimate achievement for the boys water polo team?

“[The ultimate achievement would be] getting past the first round of CIF. This has been my dream for awhile.”

What is your favorite sport to watch?

“My favorite sport to watch [would be] basketball, because it is entertaining to watch [professional] players play [intense games].”
