By far, 2017 has brought forth the worst JENNER-ation of overrated and talentless celebrities.

The Kardashian-Jenner family first became famous after Kim Kardashian’s sex tape was allegedly leaked in 2007. Prior to the release, Kim had only been known for her association with heiress Paris Hilton and stepfather Bruce Jenner. However after its leak, Kim and the film immediately became popular from the backlash of its viewers and the long lawsuit process. By the end, the Kardashian name had become well-known throughout the media.

Following their outbreak of popularity, E! Entertainment Television began the production Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Since its release, the family has gained fame and established their own names.

Despite their ever-growing popularity, the Kardashians remain undeserving of their fame due to their hypocritical and dramatic actions that distort viewers’ morals.

Initially, the sex tape gave Kim a bad image, but it also brought her and her family into the public’s attention and fame despite of why.

Regardless of having no talent whatsoever, the Kardashians are more idolized than those who deserve the fame, a result of fans’ favoritism for the reckless actions and freedom they see celebrities possess. Nowadays, the media craves a drama-filled story in order to create fake rumors. They do so because they know that with drama comes viewership. But where does that leave the genuine celebrities with good intentions but no “interesting” story?

In 2015, Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, came out as a transgender. Once again, the Kardashian-Jenner name exploded across social media with the news. Though Caitlyn had been previously known for her career in the Olympics, she struck controversy and  recaptured the spotlight after announcing her official transition. Fans had mixed emotions regarding the the transition and it’s safe to say not all of the them were supportive.

Despite being apart of the LGBTQ community, Caitlyn continued to publicly appear as a supporter of President Donald Trump, insisting that he was in favor of the LGBTQ rights. The hypocrisy of her actions struck controversy with fans as Trump has a known prejudice against any form of diversity and the LGBTQ community.

In a day and age where individuality is more widely accepted than ever before, many have come out with their differences. Caitlyn is undeserving of fame for coming out and facing the harsh judgement when thousands of others have done the same and not received a fraction of what she has.

The absurdity of the Kardashian’s fame can also be found in the infidelity of the portrayal of their lives.  Across social media and in Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the Kardashians’ lives seem perfect and only falter in order to create drama and get publicity. Though Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner have both created names for themselves in other industries, they are most famous for the drama that is incorporated in their lives and not for their accomplishments.

If any, the Kardashians’ only talent is attracting the public eye with fake news and petty drama. Keeping Up with the Kardashians may be classified as a “reality television show” but the only real aspect about the plot is how far the Kardashians and their producers will go to get attention.

All in all, the Kardashians are highly overvalued for all the wrong reasons. Since their discovery, the family has only gained popularity from their seemingly perfect lives. Time will only tell how long the Kardashians will keep up with their trend.
