Rotary Interact and Key Club will participate in the AIDS Walk at Grand Park on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Volunteers will be participating in the 10k walk to raise money for organizations to combat Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
An opening ceremony featuring celebrities and HIV and AIDS activists will be held, as well as festivities after the walk, such as the Food Truck festival and the Downtown Divas of Drag Post-Walk show.
Rotary Interact president senior Amy Tong believes that attending the AIDS Walk will be a new and enjoyable experience for club members.
“It is beneficial to attend the event, because [members] can acquire more knowledge [about AIDS],” Tong said. “I’m also looking forward to seeing everyone come together to hang out and have a good time.”
According to Key Club Vice President senior Brandon Yi, attending the AIDS Walk will expand the club.
“Key Club is a voluntary club that wants to set good examples. By attending the AIDS Walk, we create a better image and attract more people to join,” Yi said.
Rotary Interact member freshman Kyra Liu looks forward to attending the AIDS Walk for the first time.
“Since this is my first year in Interact, I look forward to going to the AIDS Walk, [because I can] interact with different clubs and spread awareness by walking,” Liu said.
