Robotics competes at the Northern California Regionals

 The robotics team recently competed in the Northern California (NorCal) Regionals at Newmark Memorial High School on Feb. 17 and 18.

 The  competition hosted a total of 54 schools and divided them into two groups. The team placed 13 out of 28 in their division, and made it to the semifinals of the competition.

 According to robotics coach Jung Han, the NorCal Regionals determined if the team will move onto the Super Regionals while gauging the skills of the team.

 “The NorCal Regionals was a good indicator to show where the team is at this point in the season to see if we are ready for the world championships,” Han said.

 The team advanced to Regionals after the NorCal Qualifier but will not continue to the Super Regionals.

 Sophomore member Jessica Lam says that the group could have fixed minor problems before competing.

 “We could have spent more time working on the autonomous portion for the robot, because it was inconsistent,” Lam says. “[Although] our team performed well in terms of overall score, unlucky matches left us in a lower position than expected.”

 Sophomore member Belinda Wang believes that the team did not do well because of faulty expectations.

 “While we expected to face really strong competition, we [believed] that we could easily beat them,” Wang says. “[However], because of our underestimations, we were not able to advance.”

 The next competition will be the Southern California Regionals at Monrovia High School on Feb. 24.
