On Monday, Mar. 26, boys’ tennis defeated San Dimas HS with a final score of 17-1.
According to head coach Jerelyn Lopez, the team’s current performance gives her confidence for the rest of the season.
“After strengthening our lineup through many challenges and repositioning, the team is as strong as it can be, and I am confident in finishing league strong and taking on CIF,” Lopez said.
This victory signifies a major improvement from last season, when the boys lost 8-10 to San Dimas, barely losing by two games. Although co-captain Alvin Chan (12) is proud of his team, he believes that there is still room for improvement.
“Everyone played to their full potential and kept their mind focused on the game,” Chan said. “[However], it is [important] that we consistently practice and strengthen our communication.”
Additionally, co-captain Michael Tran (11), a former doubles player, began playing singles this season and successfully won all three of his matches against San Dimas. Looking forward, Tran hopes to improve his skill by gaining more experience through tournaments and practices.
“My goal is to get past the [preliminaries] of CIF individuals and win the league title with my team,” Tran said. “I plan to meet this goal by practicing more outside of school to improve my techniques and participating in tournaments to gain more competition experience as a singles player.”
The boys’ next game will be home against Rowland HS on Apr. 10.
