On Tuesday, Apr. 24, track crushed Northview HS at the final league meet of the season, where many competitors finished off strong by surpassing their personal records.

According to co-head coach and jumps coach Dejohn Brown, many individuals stepped up to earn more points for the team.

“We [often] do not have enough athletes to compete in certain events,” Brown said. “At this competition, many individuals filled the gaps and [competed] in events that they might have been uncomfortable in, giving us more [chances] to earn points.”

Despite setting a new personal record, high jumps captain Fusiana Johnson (11) believes she still has room for improvement.

“I have progressed a lot [since] the [beginning] of the season, and I think I did really well at the competition,” Johnson said. “[However], I wish I would have practiced more [during] off-season to improve my [strength].”

Additionally, pole vaulter Chase Tam (11) placed first in his event with a height of 10’0”., beating his previous personal record of 8’6”

“I performed to the best of my ability and managed to break my personal record by vaulting ten inches,” Tam said. “I will continue practicing to [hopefully] vault over 11 feet.”

The track team will continue to practice everyday in order to prepare for the upcoming finals and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) competitions.

Track’s league preliminaries will be away at Covina District Stadium on Tuesday, May 1.
