On Aug. 21, boys’ water polo yielded to Diamond Bar HS with a final score of 5-16.

According to goalie Matthew Wu (12), the team’s lack of defense contributed to their ultimate loss.

“[Our] score was not [ideal] and there are many [aspects] we can [improve on],” Wu said. “One major problem we faced was that our defense [allowed] counter-attacks, giving Diamond Bar the [opportunity] to score quickly.”

Despite the loss, set guard Jonathan Han (12) believes the team exerted strong teamwork and the loss strengthened players by building stronger relationships.

“[Throughout the game], we were able to run the correct plays and communicated well with [one another],” Han said. “We [listened] to our coach’s advice and displayed it in [our performance]. This loss will build our team’s chemistry as a whole which will benefit us for future games.”

Nevertheless, head coach Emilie Eastman is extremely  optimistic for the future.

“Although this loss was a [setback] the only way to go from here is up.” Eastman said “I know the team wants [to improve], and all they need is a little help getting there.”

Boys’ water polo is now preparing for their next home game against West Covina HS on Aug. 28.
