The Royal Wilson Marching Alliance (RWMA) competed in the annual Baldwin Park Field Show Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 20.

Marching Band placed second in its division, Percussion placed third overall and Color Guard placed first overall.

Given the successful competition, band director Rich Torres is proud of RWMA’s hard work.

“It is easy to make a sound on an instrument, but it is hard to make it sound good,” Torres said. “The band worked hard, and it was [amazing] to see the kids enjoying their performance.”

Although she is proud of her fellow band members’ accomplishments, Drum Major senior Adi Mendez feels there are still aspects to improve on.

“[Even though] we did well this weekend, we [still] need to work on our musicianship and [improve our] marching technique,” Mendez said.

Furthermore, sousaphone player sophomore Ivan Zhao feels that the competition leads RWMA one step closer to qualifying for championships.

“[Because] we did well this competition, hopefully we can get to championships this year by [improving] our scores and placing higher,” Zhao said.

RWMA will be hosting its 30th Annual Golden State Field Classic  on Oct. 27.
