Winter Spirit Week Promotes Holiday Spirit

Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted its annual Winter Spirit Week to promote holiday spirit from Dec. 10 to Dec. 14.
Students participated in Merry Morning Monday, Christmas Socks Tuesday, Winter Wonderland Wednesday, Color Block Thursday and Festive Friday. An ugly sweater contest held during lunch on Festive Friday concluded the spirit week.
According to ASB advisor Patricia Habash-Branconier, student participation became a huge focus for the week.
“I wanted a lot of students to participate in this spirit week, because it gives them something to look forward to. When planning each day, [ASB] made sure that the clothing was easy to find so students could feel the holiday spirit and create memories with their friends,” Habash said.
Furthermore, ASB Head of Public Relations senior Kelsie Kim believes communication can be improved for future years.
“I hope that next year, there will be better communication so the student body is aware of such events ahead of schedule and continues to see growth and creativity in spirit days,” Kim said.
At the Ugly Sweater Contest, the crowd’s applause factored into the decision of who won. Sophomore Delaney McConnell, one of three winners, said participating in the contest gave her a variety of feelings.
“Wearing my sweater was a last-minute decision, because my aunt simply handed it to me in the morning,” McConnell said. “I was really shocked that I won, because my sweater was not extremely great, but I still had a good time [pumping] up the crowd.”
ASB’s next event is the Winter Sports Rally on Jan. 11.
