Royal Wilson Marching Alliance (RWMA) performed in the Winter Fest concert on March 22.

Winter Fest is a concert showcasing the pieces RWMA has been practicing for competition this semester. Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Drumline and Color Guard raised money through ticket, concession and t-shirt sales as well.

According to French horns section leader senior Ezdras Meraz-Lerma, Winter Fest gave performers an opportunity to showcase the hard work they have put in.

“This is the first Winter Fest ever, and the [goal] was to display all the skills we have learned over the course of the [spring] semester,” Meraz-Lerma said. “From what I have seen, my section members from practiced the very best they could, and I felt they did a very good job in their performances. [Furthermore, we had] a very large crowd [show up, consisting of] parents, families and even former band director Jonathan Chang.”

Similarly, Color Guard member sophomore Joali Torrico enjoyed the show and believes the event will help recruit new members for Color Guard.

“My favorite part [of Winter Fest] was watching the band play different songs that [I have] never heard before,” Torrico said. “[We wanted] our performance to attract new members, [so] please join Color guard. We need more people!”

In addition, drumline member and trombone player sophomore Peter Lu juggled the responsibilities of both commitments.

“Being a drumline member, I had to prepare for this competition at the same time [as treating] this performance like a competition [for band],” Lu said. “Doing drumline in the future, I have to commit more to drumline and find [additional] time to manage it.”

RWMA’s next event is the Area Concert on April 25.
