On Thursday, Sep. 5, girls’ tennis defeated Alhambra HS with a score of 14-4.
Throughout the preseason, the team continuously worked to refine their performance and adopting a strong mindset.
According to doubles player Isabella Lin (10), the match is indicative of the girls’ successful team dynamic.
“[Our team] worked to improve our performance by giving one hundred percent and playing with our best efforts,” Lin said. “The game’s outcome is [especially] important because it is a team-based effort and when we win, it is a win [for] the team.”
By utilizing previous experience, the team enhanced their abilities by practicing drills for areas of improvement such as footwork and specific shots.
Throughout the game, singles player Natalie Wu (10) employed her experience and overcame several difficulties.
“During this match, I felt very discouraged against my second opponent which led me to not start off a few games strong,” Wu said. “[However,] I quickly responded to my adversities and gained my confidence back.”
All in all, captain Arianna Audelo (11) is confident for the season ahead and maintains high hopes for the team.
“As captain, I try to encourage my teammates as much as I can because I know how much potential our team has,” Audelo said. “We [are] a very strong team with solid players and I believe we [will] keep our place as league champions.”
Girls’ tennis will face El Rancho HS at home on Monday, Sep. 9.
